Mary Ida Thiel

Mary Ida Thiel was born in 1882 in Solingen, Germany and must have been a few months old when she travelled to South Africa with her mother, grandmother and their other children to join her father and grandfather in Kimberley. Very little is known about Mary but she must have grown up at Beaconsfield with her brothers and sister. She later married Percy Farquharson and they had one daughter, Doris Farquharson. While Doris and her husband were living in Bloemhof, her father, Samuel, lived with them for some time after he returned from South West Africa.
