Daughter of: Karl Wilhelm Thiel

Cecilie Maria Wilhelmina Thiel

1892 – 1974

Cecilie was born in Pretoria before the family moved to Nylstroom and was 10 years old when the family returned to Pretoria and 15 when the family arrived in South West Africa. While Cecilie was looking after the children of the Ludwig family at “Ludwigslust” she met her future husband, Georg Gotthilf Geiger, who was working for John Ludwig as Schlosser (Blacksmith) at the time. Georg was a German who first wanted to move to America but ended up in Swakopmund. Georg and Cecilie were married in 1911 and had six children.

Around 1913 Georg started his own business, Georg Geiger Werkstatt in Windhoek.  Georg was really more than a blacksmith. He owned a huge workshop in Klein Windhoek employing large lathes as well as a multitude of other machines. He was contracted to do a lot of work for the Windhoek Brewery. Georg was Deputy Mayor of Windhoek from 1918 to 1920. Throughout his life Georg was not really a healthy person. The Geiger family always stayed in Klein Windhoek where Georg died in 1932 at the age of 48. After his death Cecilie married Friedrich Kolberg. Cecilie passed away in 1974.
