Paul Gustav Thiel

Paul Gustav Thiel was the first of the children of Samuel and Ida Thiel born in South Africa. He grew up at Beaconsfield and later worked for the ERPM Gold Mine at Boksburg. Paul never got married. He developed phthisis because of his work in the mine and was told by his doctor that he had only nine months to live. He promptly went on a nine month world tour and died three days after returning to South Africa.
